  Name:     bitstrip() - strip high bits from string
  Usage:    <string> = bitstrip(<string>)
  Params:   string <string> - the string to strip
  Returns:  a string equal to <string> but the high bit of all the
            characters has been set to 0

                 ws1  = fopen("wsfile.doc")
                 asc2 = fcreate("ascii.txt")
                 do while .not. feof(ws1)
                      fwriteline(asc2,bitstrip(freadline(ws1)))
                 enddo

  Note:     This function is useful for converting Wordstar document files
            to pure ascii.
