Expanded Memory
   This is memory beyond 640k that DOS makes available to programs.
   Theoretically, it can be expanded up to 16Mb and is used by those
   products which support the Lotus/Intel/Microsoft specifications 3.2
   and more recently 4.0.  In some cases expanded memory is taken out of
   extended memory. DOS 4 automatically supports expanded memory.
