X-Hacker.org- dBsee 4.6 - The Library - Norton Guide http://www.X-Hacker.org [<<Previous Entry] [^^Up^^] [Next Entry>>] [Menu] [About The Guide]

During the development phases, it can be necessary to change the name of
one or more of the files defined. Because of the fact that the name can be
referenced in any part of the application, any change in the name must be
reflected throughout the whole application. dBsee allows to modify the
names of files (and of fields, indexes, etc) safely, and will apply the
   changes over the whole application.

To modify the name of a file proceed as follows:

. Access the definition environment of the database structure
       by pressing the Dictionary button.

. Move the cursor until the file whose name is to be modified
       is highlighted.

     . Press the Ctrl-R keys.

. Insert the new name. By pressing the F9 (check) key, the
eventual modifications will be written to the dBseeUpd.txt file,
stored in the BIN subdirectory of the application. This file can be
freely consulted with any text editor. Please note that the F9 key
       will not make any changes.

. Use the F10 key to make the modifications permanent.
This action will also create the above mentioned dBseeUpd.txt file
with the log of the changes made.

The modifications will be reflected throughout the whole application,
   wherever the file is used.

Please remember that if the modification of a file name is done during the
maintenance of the application, it is necessary to generate the
dbDD.dbf file again by using the Ctrl-F10 keys (selective
generation) or by selecting this option from the Generator environment.
