read ([len])

     Usage: Reads characters starting at the current cursor location.
            It can read from 1 character up to the remaining
            characters on the line (terminated by \n).  The cursor
            does not move.

Parameters: Len .int. is the maximum characters to read.

   Returns: The string read.
