X-Hacker.org- dBsee 4.6 - The Library - Norton Guide http://www.X-Hacker.org [<<Previous Entry] [^^Up^^] [Next Entry>>] [Menu] [About The Guide]

dBsee, and the application, will check for the index files when being
executed. If no index files are found, they will automatically be created.
If the indexes are to be 'refreshed' or recreated, the operation can be
performed by the Reindex button in the Service environment, or by
selecting the appropriate menu label in the final application.

The reindexation is an operation that should be performed on a regular
basis. During reindexation in the application, records pending for
deletion are normally not removed, i.e. they remain present but occupy
space. The DBSTART.INI file provides a parameter, section [apps], named
FilePack, that is used for specifying whether or not the file should
be packed before reindexing, thus removing the deleted records.

Reindexation is advised, because index files do get corrupted due to, for
example, power failures or unpredictable termination of the application's
   execution during intens data processing.

A second way of forcing the reindexation, is by deleting the index files
   directly from the DOS prompt:

   DEL *.NTX

As soon as the application is executed, or the project loaded, the index
   files are created automatically.
