X-Hacker.org- dBsee 4.6 - The Library - Norton Guide http://www.X-Hacker.org [<<Previous Entry] [^^Up^^] [Next Entry>>] [Menu] [About The Guide]

When dBsee 4 is executed, the first phase of configuration is activated.
The configuration parameters are read from the dBsee.INI file,
searched first in the current directory, then in the root of drive C:, and
then in all the directories listed in the PATH statement. If the file is
not available in one of those directories, it is taken from the
   \DBSEE4\BIN directory.

In fact, this file can be customised, in order to adapt it to each of the
projects developed. It can be viewed or modified with any text editor.

At the bottom lines, dBsee.INI contains a list of projects installed on
your computer. dBsee automatically updates this file when projects are
added or removed. If a new release of dBsee 4 is installed, the previous
dBsee.INI file is backed up and a new one is generated. This file must be
updated manually afterwards, including the project name and path.

The dBsee.INI file is structured in sections, each of which contains
the value of a group of parameters. Each section is preceded by a title
found between square brackets and commented.

The sections contained are the following:

User

This section will contain, in the future releases, the user identification
codes and/or names for operating in the dBsee 4 Workgroup Edition, which
is, at the time of this writing, not available.

dBsee

   General configuration parameters:

. MOUSE: sets the shape and type of mouse pointer. The
mouse pointer can be displayed as a graphical arrow (MouseVGA=Yes) or
as a colored block (MouseVGA=No). This last mode is the default value.

. CLOSE PROGRAM: sets the exit mode for dBsee. This mode
indicates in which directory dBsee must exit to. The valid options for
Quit are the directory dBsee was executed from (START), the
project repository (BIN), the project's executable files (EXE) or the
sources (SOURCE). This last mode is the default value.

. The current revision state of dBsee is listed (RELEASE).

. Minimum disk space in Kb for reindexation: this option
(KBNTXSPACE) sets the least amount of disk space required for
reindexing the project's files. If space drops below this value, dBsee
       will warn the user.

. Minimum disk space in Kb for a new project: this option
(KBPRJSPACE) sets the least amount of disk space required for
creating a new project. If space drops below this value, the user will
warned each time dBsee is executed. To get rid of this message, lower
the value or increase the available disk space.

Environment

This section is used to set the directories and path statements necessary
for dBsee to find the system files and the default project repository and
   templates.

. Read dBsee configuration from path: the configuration
files are dBseeHlp.dbf, dBseeBrw.dbf, etc. These files are necessary
for the execution of dBsee, and this this option identifies the
directory where these files are installed.

. Root path for default repository and template: this
option indicates the root directory for the the default project
repository. This is the start-up project used for creating new
projects. In the same directory, the Templates used for the source
       generation are stored.

Example:

   dbtmp = C:\DBSEE4\BIN

Desktop

Desktop layout. This section is used for setting the ASCII codes of the
characters redefined for obtaining aspect of the CUA interface and
elements. The control identifier is followed by a series of numbers
indicating the ASCII that compose the element.

The names may not be changed. Changing the character codes will
reflect throughout every environment of dBsee and in the generated
   applications.

Color

   Redefinition of Clipper's basic colors.

Colors in dBsee are set using a color palette. This palette is made up of
16 basic Clipper colors, to which a new color has been associated. Each
color is made up of 3 components, namely Red, Green and Blue. Varying one
of the components from 0 to 63, it is possible to create a much more
colorful and attractive color chart. The 3 value listed represent the
quantity of Red, Green and Blue, respectively.

Project

This section describes the projects that are being developed. This list is
updated automatically by dBsee, when projects are added using the
   Projects-New buttons.

When a new release of dBsee is installed, it creates a backup copy of the
original configuration file naming it dBsee.bak. In order to update
the new dBsee.INI with the current projects, a text editor must be
used for manually restoring the projects created.

Each project is identified by a description and a root directory name. The
two topics must be seperated by a comma, thus the description may not
   contain that character:

Example:

   Waybills management, C:\DBSEE4\WBILLS

Removing a project must also be done manually, by deleting the entry to
the project to be deleted, and by deleting the directory with all its
subdirectories from disk (Use for example XDEL, DELTREE or similar
   utilities).

The project entries in this section is presented in the list of projects
displayed when pressing Projects and Open.
