X-Hacker.org- dBsee 4.6 - The Library - Norton Guide http://www.X-Hacker.org [<<Previous Entry] [^^Up^^] [Next Entry>>] [Menu] [About The Guide]

Primary Key means a field or a combination of fields that uniquely
identifies a record within a field: if X is a key (on a single field
or combination of fields), two records cannot have the same value for
   X.

Additional information on primary keys can be found in chapter
   Introduction, paragraph Data definition.

The data entry forms in dBsee are construed in such a way, if not
specified otherwise, that the primary key can not be modified anymore once
being defined. In other words, modification of the record will skip the
fields that build the primary key expression.

The index defined as Primary Key is characterised by the P
abbreviation. The P attribute can be associated only to one index. If
other indexes are also to be used for managing unique key values, it is
suggested to use the U (Unique key) attribute.

It is a good idea that the keys that make up a primary key be found at the
beginning of a record structure. We also suggest to associate a primary
   key to the first index.
