X-Hacker.org- dBsee 4.6 - The Library - Norton Guide http://www.X-Hacker.org [<<Previous Entry] [^^Up^^] [Next Entry>>] [Menu] [About The Guide]

An index can be created in the following way:

. From the main dBsee menu press the Dictionary button.

. Highlight the file to which the index is to be associated.

. Select and press the Indexes button.

. Use the Ins key. A window appears containing all of the
       fields belonging to the file.

. Mark, by using the keys Ctrl-Space Bar, the fields that
will determine index expression. The selected fields will be preceeded
by the "." symbol. The index expression will contain the fields in
the same sequence that they were marked.

. Confirm the creation of the index with the Create Index
button. In case that the index is created as a primary key, or no
primary keys are defined yet, the system will ask to define the
management mode of the keys in data entry. dBsee provides 2 different
       modes of operation:

. Key entered by the user (see)

. Automatically increased by the system (see)

To select one mode or the other, just highlight the desired choice and
press the Space key. In case that the second option is selected, the
   increment step must be set.

     . Confirm the data entered.

In case that a primary key is created, two modes can be selected for
   operating with the primary keys:

. Key entered by the user, in which case the verification
is performed on the data entered

   or

. Automatically increased by the system, where the field
is only displayed, and its contents is increased by the program upon
each insertion, with the step defined.
In case that the indexkey is composite, the automatic increase will
only be applied to the last field of the indexkey expression.

   --------------------------------------------------------------------------
The name, proposed by dBsee, has the same root as the file from which it
derives, with the addition of a progressive number.
The index expression contains the fields in the same order in which they
   are tagged.
