X-Hacker.org- dBsee 4.6 - The Library - Norton Guide http://www.X-Hacker.org [<<Previous Entry] [^^Up^^] [Next Entry>>] [Menu] [About The Guide]

The installation of dBsee 4 will create a group of directories in which
the various files of the product can be found. The \DBSEE4\BIN directory
contains the executable file of dBsee 4. Reference this directory
through the PATH statement defined in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file.

When dBsee 4 is run, an initial configuration is activated. The
configuration parameters are read from the DBSEE.INI file, present in the
\DBSEE4\BIN directory; if not found there, it is searched for in all the
directories contained in the PATH environment variable.

The DBSEE.INI file can be displayed and modified with any text editor. In
the final part ([project] section), DBSEE.INI contains a list of projects
developed with dBsee 4 and installed on your computer. dBsee will
automatically update the DBSEE.INI file whenever projects are added or
removed. If a new release of dBsee is installed, a backup copy of old file
(DBSEE.BAK) is created and a new DBSEE.INI file is provided. This new file
must be eventually be updated manually to include the name and path of
your projects found in the [project] section in DBSEE.BAK.

Once the configuration phase is complete, dBsee 4 reads the repository
of the last project you were working on. Whenever you decide to open a
different project, it is sufficient to access the Projects-Open
environment and load the desired project.

When deciding to create a new project, dBsee 4 copies into the BIN
sub-directory of the new project directory, a default repository contained
in the \DBSEE4\TMP\BIN directory. It is not adviseable to modify this
default repository, because product upgrades will overwrite the contents
in this directory. In the case that a different default repository is
wanted, it is sufficient to create a copy of this directory (ex.
\DBSEE4\NEWREPOS) and link dBsee to this directory, by setting the
dbtmp parameter in the [environment] section of DBSEE.INI.

dBsee 4 can also be executed passing a parameter at the command-line
prompt; the name corresponds to an object defined in dBsee:

Example:

   C:\DBSEE4\PROJECT\SOURCE> dBsee ArtFrm.prg

In this case, the execution of dBsee 4 proceeds directly to the
generation of the source code relative to the object indicated
   (ArtFrm.prg).

Below are some keys that allow to manage the way in which dBsee 4
interacts with the external DOS environment:

Alt-Q Allows to quit dBsee and return to DOS. In the
DBSEE.INI file, the quit parameter in section
[dbsee] indicates in which directory to return
                           after exiting.

Ctrl-O Shell to the operating system. To re-enter in
dBsee 4, just type EXIT at the command-line
prompt. During this phase, the files that make up
the repository are closed in order to avoid
eventual damages to the project data.

Ctrl-E Allows to call your favourite editor, configurable
                           within the dBsee4 environment
                           (Service-User).
